FAQs about Wedding Save the Dates

  • Do we have to send out Save the Dates?
  • Save the Dates are optional, but they are becoming more mainstream and expected nowadays. They will definitely help you fend off all the people who are asking you when you’re getting married. Honestly, that question starts getting annoying like five minutes after you get engaged, right? If you need help choosing your wedding date, here’s my advice.
  • When you should send out Save the Dates?

  • Shutterfly says that save the dates should be sent out 4-6 months before the wedding (6-8 months if it’s a destination wedding). Formal invitations are to be sent 8 weeks prior to the wedding.
  • Can we send out the Save the Date announcement via email?

Yes, totally! I think this is a great way to save some money on your wedding budget.

  • What information should we include on our Save the Dates?
  • Definitely your name, wedding date, and location (city is fine if you haven’t locked down your venue). It’s nice to include a note that there is more info coming like “formal invitation to follow”.

  • You can also mention your wedding website if you have one. If you don’t, check out this post about how to create a wedding website that will wow your guests.
