Rectangular Extendable Dining Room Tables
One of the first things that I looked for when I was planning our dining room renovation mood board was a dining room table. And that makes sense, right? The dining room table is pretty much the focal point of any dining space.
But I wasn’t searching for just any dining room table. My list was specific and narrow. I wanted:
- A rectangular table: Round tables are great, they just weren’t part of my vision for the space.
- A table that could be extended: Whether it was with a removable leaf or wings that came out from the edges of the table, I wanted to be able to make it larger when we had extra guests over for special occasions and large gatherings.
- Something high quality made with real wood: I was on a budget (ideally less than $1,000), but I also wanted something that was going to last a long time with everyday use, which meant real wood – not veneers.
- Maximum size of table with a leaf less than 75″: Our dining room isn’t huge. The maximum size we could fit in the dining room comfortably was 75 inches. Most extendable tables are much bigger than this, so it was tricky finding options that would fit.
As I narrowed the search down and looked for special offers and sales, I decided that I really wanted something with turned table legs to bring in that old-world style. Modern clean lines are nice, but I wanted something with more character for the focal point in our dining room.
Since I looked for a good dining table for a while, I had a quite a few on my short list. So I decided to share them all with you! If you’re also searching for extendable dining room tables in a rectangular shape, you’ll love this list for inspiration.

Extendable Dining Tables: 8 Great Options
Option 1 // Option 2 // Option 3 // Option 4 // Option 5 // Option 6 // Option 7 // Option 8
The table that we ended up with was option 8. However, when we purchased it this summer there was another color option (with the painted dark base) that is no longer available. It was an excellent choice for our transitional dining room and checks all the boxes.
For a bit of modern touch we added Windsor-back black wooden dining chairs on the sides with upholstered chairs on the head and food of the table. Mixing and matching the different chairs ended up being a great option for mixing the different interior design styles that I wanted to showcase in the room.
