Gorgeous Double Shower Ideas For Your Master Bathroom
Sharing a shower as a couple might seem like a spontaneous and romantic idea. However, reality often involves navigating a tight, slippery space if it wasn't exactly designed for two. Whether you're aiming to create a steamy oasis with shared showers or simply facing the practicality of a dual morning routine, here are a few double shower ideas for you!

Ways to Make Your Double Shower into a Spa Oasis
A master bathroom is more than just a functional space; it’s a sanctuary where you can unwind and pamper yourself. Double showers not only add a touch of luxury but also enhance the functionality of the space.
The Build: Basics for a Double Shower
When choosing your design, look for high-quality materials such as natural stone tiles or large-format porcelain tiles to create an elegant and spa-like atmosphere in your shower. The right materials can enhance the visual appeal and contribute to a show-stopping look for your shower space.
We did a fully custom shower design for our master bathroom with a curbless design, fixed glass panels in place of glass doors, and a Euro drain. It wasn’t cheap but was definitely worth it!
Adding a built-in seating or bench will elevate the comfort level of your shower. This feature not only adds a touch of luxury but also allows you to linger and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of your spa-like shower. Plus, a built-in bench is a great prop for shaving and storing bath products. It’s a practical addition that enhances both comfort and functionality in your bathroom.
Most double showers are either open-concept without doors or with frameless glass shower doors. Either way, these solutions create a sense of openness and allow natural light to flood the space, making it feel larger and more inviting. Double doors are also popular in double showers, which makes sense.
Since you are accomplishing two morning routines for the price of one, I strongly recommend incorporating different separate His and Hers spaces for storing products within the shower. These are known as shower niches, which are installed at the time of the build. You can use a contrasting design of mosaic tiles, different patterned tiles, or a different colored tile to add interest to your niche. If you’re not into the shower niche look, there are also different types of shower shelves that you can add to the shower area for storage.
These separate storage spaces not only add another practical touch but also allow each user to personalize their space with unique fixtures and features. And let’s face it, we women have way more products than men do!
The Accessories: Add a Touch of Luxury
While these options aren’t entirely necessary, they will truly add to the luxurious experience of the double shower.
- Rainfall Showerhead: Install a rainfall showerhead to recreate the soothing experience of rain. The gentle cascade of water provides a luxurious and immersive shower experience, transforming your daily routine into a spa-like indulgence.
- Aromatherapy and Essential Oils: Introduce aromatherapy into your shower routine by using essential oils. Add a few drops of your favorite scents to a diffuser or include shower products infused with calming essential oils. I love using shower steamers, like this, for some aromatherapy in my shower. Some people also will hang eucalyptus from the shower head for the same added benefits. The steam from the shower helps the oil from the plant get into the air.
- Soft Lighting: Enhance the mood in your shower space by incorporating soft and dimmable lighting. Consider installing LED lights with adjustable brightness to create a tranquil atmosphere reminiscent of a spa.
- Smart Technology Integration: Elevate your double shower experience with smart technology. Install programmable LED lighting to set the mood, or consider a digital control panel that allows you to customize water temperature, pressure, and even a speaker for a personalized and tech-savvy shower experience. Our light and bathroom fan has a Bluetooth speaker and I use it every single day to listen to music or podcasts in the shower.
- Open Concept Design: If space allows, consider an open-concept double shower that seamlessly blends with the rest of the bathroom. Also called a wet room, a walk-in shower design not only creates a sense of continuity but also allows for easy access and flow between different areas of the master bathroom. With the right drainage and waterproofing, you can create the clean look of a curbless and doorless shower. A freestanding tub is another great way to add some luxury to your double shower bathroom space if you have the room for it.
Shower Shapes for Dual Showers
So what kind of shower design should you choose? Showers literally come in ALL shapes and sizes, which can seriously be overwhelming!
Here’s a quick summary of the most common types of shower shapes. Read more about shower design here.
Rectangular showers are a classic and versatile choice. They can be installed in various sizes, fitting both small and large bathrooms. Double shower heads can be placed at either end of the rectangle or on the back shower wall.
Advantages: Efficient use of floor space, accommodates different shower styles and easily integrates with existing bathroom layouts.
Corner Showers are space-saving options that maximize available square footage. They come in various shapes, including square and quarter-circle designs. Another type of corner shower is a neo-angle shower, which has three glass sides and is placed in the corner. Two shower heads can be placed on each side of the corner.
Alcove showers are installed between three walls, with a glass door on the open side. They are common in bathrooms with limited space and are often paired with a bathtub. There are several different spots where you can put double shower heads in an alcove shower, depending on the shape and design.
Advantages: Efficient use of space, easy to install, and can be combined with a bathtub in a shared alcove.
Walk-in showers are characterized by their open design with minimal or no doors. They often feature a seamless entry and are popular for their accessibility and modern aesthetics. This is probably the most common option for two-person showers.
Advantages: Barrier-free design, spacious feel, and easy access for individuals with mobility considerations because they can be made so they are wheelchair accessible.
Types of Shower Heads
Now that you have a list of your must-haves and selected your shower design, it’s time to select the perfect shower head! As I said, the great thing about double showers is that you can personalize both shower experiences. You can even choose three or more different shower heads!
If you want to really amp up the experience, install a rain shower head in the center and then your respective shower heads on either side.
Here are some common types of shower heads:
1. Rainfall Shower Head: Mimicking the feel of rain, these showerheads have a wide, flat design that releases water in a gentle and even flow. Most often they will be a fixed shower head and are typically mounted on the ceiling for a luxurious and immersive shower experience.
2. Handheld Shower Heads: These are your most common shower heads. Attached to a flexible hose, handheld showerheads provide the flexibility to direct water exactly where it’s needed. The best thing about handheld shower heads is that you can grab them to help out when cleaning the shower.
3. Fixed Wall-Mount Shower Head: The traditional wall-mounted shower head is fixed to the shower arm on the wall. They come in various styles and spray patterns, offering a classic and versatile option for most bathrooms.

This is our very own master bathroom! The double shower really amped up the space and made showering more like a day at the spa. I love this white bathroom with creamy white painted walls and faux marble large format tiles.
You walk into the curbless shower in the middle and there is one shower head on each end of the shower on the side walls. This is one of the most common ways to handle the placement of the shower heads for his and her shower. Each side also has a handheld attachment and its own shower niche for storage.
Since we didn't add a built-in shower bench, we brought in a small stool that is completely waterproof to provide a good spot for shaving.
An ultra modern upgrade for this master bathroom! Beautiful tiling, wallpaper, and more accents make this bathroom a total luxury experience.
Plus, this example has three shower heads! There is one on each side of the shower (with its own controls and temperature settings) and one overhead rainhead shower. The two sides of the shower share a large shower niche in the middle for storing the essentials.
Each shower head can be adjusted to the right angle for each person, which is great when the two people have totally different heights.
The elements in this farmhouse master bathroom are the perfect balance between vintage and modern, rustic and chic. I love the classic look of the white subway tile everywhere. Get inspired with more bathrooms with white subway tile here!
This shower layout shows us that even if your shower is on the smaller side, you can still make it a double shower. This one has a shower head on each side and a handheld shower wand to help with cleaning.
Luxurious and modern with a hint of vintage. This beautiful bathroom design features a stunning clawfoot tub and an extra large walk-in shower for two with the two shower heads arranged side by side on one wall of the shower.
The large marble shower tiles really give it a modern look and the interesting tile on the shower floor adds a ton of visual interest.
A stunning black, white, and gray bathroom with a custom-built double shower. I love this design with two shower heads arranged next to each other on the back wall of the shower and a handheld shower.
The bathroom has a very classic look with matching traditional finishes, which include chrome shower fixtures, faucets in the sink area, and hardware on the vanity.
A double shower in your master bathroom is more than just a utilitarian addition; it’s a statement of luxury and style. Don’t settle for an ordinary shower when you can indulge in the extraordinary with a double shower in your master bathroom.
