Color Drenching Bedroom: Before and After

Have you heard the latest interior design trend – color drenching? Let’s start with the basics.
What is color drenching?
Color drenching is when you use one paint color on the walls, baseboards, ceiling and even the doors! Sometimes designers go as far as even using monochromatic tones in the furniture as well. Color drenching can make a room feel cohesive and cozy, especially when used with a moody color.
This monochromatic look can be used with several different interior design styles – from minimalist to maximalist! You can use a neutral color, a bright color, or a dark paint color. This concept can be used in an office, living room, bedroom, or really any space of your home.
Color drenching can also make your space feel larger than it really is because your eye is not broken up by different paint colors. Having less contrast in your colors will also help the room feel calmer.
How We’re Using Color Drenching in Our Daughter’s Bedroom
We decided to try out this trend in our daughter’s bedroom with – her request – the color pink. Now, we went back and forth between several different shades of pink before landing on a darker rose shade of pink that we both loved.
Keep in mind, she’s 6…so she wanted the brightest shade of pink possible. Haha.
We’re going to keep the board and batten trim on the far wall, mostly because it would hard to remove it! We’re also going to be adding flower stickers to that back wall as an accent. Check out more of our bedroom design plan in this article!
Before Photos
In her old bedroom, we really had four different paint colors going on. There was the gray walls, the green accent wall, the white on the trim and door and the flat white on the ceiling.
For this new look ALL of those different areas are getting the same paint color!
Painting Everything One Paint Color
As always, we started with prepping the room for fresh paint, which includes:
- Removing all decor and art from the walls (and removing all Command strips, which we use to hang basically everything)
- Moving furniture to another room or the middle of the room and covering
- Wiping and/or cleaning the walls and trim
- Patching nail holes (if necessary)
- Recaulking baseboards (if necessary)
Next we started with the ceilings, then the walls and trim and finally the inside of the bedroom room.

Because everything was going to be painted one color it was really nice to not have to worry about taking time with cutting in, like we normally do by hand.
After Photos: Color Drenched Pink Bedroom
Here’s how the bedroom turned out after color drenching the space with this dusty rose pink color! This blank canvas of pink was a great start for her girly, retro bedroom.
Next we’ll add the flower stickers to the wall, add bobbin picture frame art over the bed, and even make a cloud shaped headboard!
We even continued the pink theme on the curtains, which are a lighter shade of pink velvet with little bows at the top. So cute, right?
Stay tuned to continue seeing her cute bedroom come to life!
