It’s finally here. The full reveal of our daughter’s retro pink bedroom makeover. And honestly, I cannot believe how good it turned out.
If you’ve been following along, you know this room has been a long time coming. She’s 8 years old, and she has opinions, and she was very clear about what she wanted. Pink. Flowers. Fun. We said yes to all of it, and I’m so glad we did.
Before Pictures
Here’s a look at where we started.

Gray walls. Green accent wall. White trim. Neutrals upon neutrals.

I actually love this room…and I still do. (Read more about the nursery here).

It worked fine when she was a baby & toddler, but she had officially outgrown it and was begging for a makeover.
So we handed her the wheel…within reason…and let her drive.

How It All Came Together
We started with a mood board, sitting at the computer together, scrolling through ideas.

She knew immediately: pink and flowers. Retro and groovy.
Once I saw what she was gravitating toward, I leaned into the 70s vibe and helped her build a cohesive direction from there.
From that mood board, we tackled the room one project at a time.

First came the paint. We went full color drenching…walls, ceiling, trim, doors, all in the same dusty rose pink (Dressy Rose from Lowe’s). It sounds like a lot, but it made the room feel so cozy and intentional. And it only took one day.
Then the walls got personality. We added white flower vinyl stickers to the board and batten accent wall, which was our compromise for wallpaper (a hard no from me).

Six bobbin picture frames went up over the bed…painted in white, red, light pink, dark pink, and yellow, each filled with retro floral art we found. That wall is probably my favorite thing in the whole room.

Logan built her a DIY cloud headboard from scratch, cut from OSB, upholstered with foam, batting, and fabric in a color that matches her bedding perfectly. She asked for a cloud bed, and we delivered. Bedtime stories just got an upgrade.

She also requested disco balls. Of course she did. So we made DIY yarn hangers using a simple macrame knot. It was a $15, 30-minute project that adds so much energy to the room.

The last two projects were my personal favorites to document. First, a giant corkboard wall made from removable cork tiles with a hand-painted scalloped border using leftover wall paint. It’s basically a built-in gallery for her endless stream of artwork.

To go with the pinboard, we made DIY push pins out of thumbtacks, resin charms, buttons, googly eyes, and leftover wood beads from the bobbin frames. She had a blast making them, and they add so much character to the cork wall.
The Reveal

What She Thinks
After we were finished with the room, I randomly found the little note on a piece of painter’s tape on the door that says “mom dad, I love my room”…
So, that’s the whole review. I’ll take it.
This room is more colorful and a bit busier than I would have chosen if I were designing it alone.
But that’s kinda the whole point. It’s not my room. It’s hers. And watching her get excited about design, learn to make things with her hands, and see her ideas come to life – that’s the whole reason we do this.
