25+ Small Bedroom Decorating Ideas On A Budget
Looking for small bedroom decorating ideas on a budget? Here's a collection of budget-friendly decorating ideas that are perfect for a small bedroom space. From DIY projects to creative use of space, here's how to get the most bang for your buck with budget-friendly small bedroom decor.
Use vintage decor to save money
I love the way she incorporates vintage decor throughout the room in this guest room, which is always a great way to stay on a budget! I love the vintage recipe cards, which are framed for cheap art.
To make the artwork feel more significant, she uses large gallery frames matted down to fit the art. You could use vintage prints, free printable graphics, or pages from a vintage magazine or newspaper to get this look in your room!
Adding bits and pieces of vintage decor is a great way to create a gorgeous bedroom with a lived-in feel. Heading to the flea market is her favorite way to find farmhouse decor!
When you find something interesting, think of ways you can repurpose and reuse it in a new way - like the vintage chair used here as a bedside table.
Upcycle & repurpose thrifted items
This DIY upcycle project is so cool! She takes an old room divider that she found at the thrift store and repurposes it as a feature in this small bedroom behind the nightstands as a backdrop for lights (also made from a thrift store find!). You've gotta see how it turns out!
Take advantage of wall space
Amanda does a great job of taking advantage of vertical wall space by incorporating wall-mounted lights above the nightstands. This saves room in a small bedroom, for sure! It is one of the top tips for smaller rooms!
Upcycle a bar stool as a nightstand
In our small bedroom, we needed a skinny nightstand and we had a small budget so we upcycled old bar stools and made them into farmhouse style bedside tables!
It was a simple project that consisted of painting the barstools with white paint and adding shelves to the rungs. I loved this project!
Or use vintage ladders as a nightstand
Speaking of DIY nightstands, you've gotta see the super cute idea in this farmhouse master bedroom. She uses a vintage wood ladder and it turned out awesome!
All she needed to do was cut down some wood pieces to find on the steps of the step ladder to create shelves. It really is the simple things, right?
Or make a super small DIY nightstand
If you are REALLY short on space in your small bedroom, you can make this easy DIY nightstand with some shelves and a light. It doesn't take up much floor space at all. Pretty simple, right?
Make your own bed with pallet wood
Using reclaimed pallet wood for your bedroom furniture is a great way to save money when you're looking for small bedroom decorating ideas on a budget.
We were able to get all of this pallet wood for free! Learn how we made this bed (headboard and bedframe)! By making your own furniture, you can totally let your personality shine.

Incorporate a barn door to save space in small bedroom

Make your own hanging phone charging station
I love this easy and super cheap DIY phone charging station! One of my favorite parts is that it is mounted on the wall, which allows you to save room in your small bedroom.
Even though the phone is a small item, it can take up valuable space on your nightstand. A little bit does a long way here in saving space!
Paint small bedroom furniture for a budget friendly DIY
Painting furniture is ALWAYS a great way to save money! You'll be shocked at how this one turns out with just some simple paint and new furniture legs! Painting your furniture a light color is one of the best ways to make a small area feel larger.

Get creative with budget friendly DIYs
This room is full of budget-friendly DIYs and great storage ideas. I love the hanging lights, sliding barn door on the closet, and the storage ottoman at the foot of the bed, which she is using for extra clothing storage (eliminating the need for a dresser to make more room for the desk).
She also made her own art to go above the bed with a small fabric DIY garland inside of an empty frame.
Add an accent wall
Adding an accent wall, like this board and batten wall, in a small bedroom is a great way to add depth and make it feel bigger.

Make your own earring organizer
If you're looking for a way to store earrings in your small bedroom, you'll love this DIY project! She uses scrap wood and wine corks on the top for the stud and post earrings, awesome, right?!
The bottom rung also has hooks for hanging necklaces up. She hung it up on the inside of the closet door, which is a great place for it!
Add hooks to the wall for extra storage
If you are struggling with finding storage in your small bedroom, adding hooks to the wall is a great idea. I love how Lindi incorporates them here as a way to deal with the limited space! You can hang hats, jackets, robes, and more from them.
Declutter your clothes
Do you still need more space in your small bedroom after incorporating creative storage and decor ideas? This post is a great resource for how to declutter your clothes, which is a GREAT way to make more space in your room and closet.
She gives a great overview of the KonMari method, which is what she used to get rid of 50% of her closet. I've used the method a few times myself and it works great! C
an you imagine how much extra space you would have if you were able to get rid of that many clothes in your room?
Don't be scared to go dark!
You may think that if you have a small room, you need to only use light colors in your color palette. And while using lighter colors is a great option for most smaller bedrooms, it is not a hard and fast rule.
You can actually add a ton of depth and personality to your space by using dark and moody colors. This black accent wall makes the entire room feel bigger, I think.
There is something about the dark wall that gives an optical illusion of depth. If you're going to go with a black accent wall, like this, be sure your room gets lots of natural light.

Make your own storage boxes with cardboard boxes

You don't need to be matchy-matchy
The good news, if you're on a budget, is that you don't have to get all the matching bedroom furniture! This room uses mismatched bedside tables and looks great!
This gives you more freedom to be able to use what you already have around your home or what you find at yard sales and thrift stores - which rarely are found in matching pairs.
She also has some other great small bedroom decorating ideas on a budget in her tutorial - like making frames from old cabinet doors and creating a jewelry box with an empty can of nuts and fabric.
Make your own bed skirt to hide under bed storage
Using the space under your bed is one of my favorite small bedroom storage ideas. But there's nothing worse than being able to see your unsightly under-bed storage boxes, so why not make your own bed skirt?
Give your room two purposes
Many times we need rooms to really work for us, providing two or more purposes! Danielle shares some great tips here for dual-purpose bedrooms.
She specifically is talking about using a guest bedroom also as a craft room, but many of the tips can be applied to other dual-purpose spaces.
I, specifically, love the idea of adding a high shelf near the ceiling. It makes such a big difference having the extra storage.
Use vintage bedding
This room has tons of vintage bedroom decorating ideas (like hanging old oars on the wall or making a coat rack with scrap wood and an old license plate) but I think my favorite is using vintage quilts for bedding.
Her mother enjoyed making quilts, so she has quite a collection. Using a vintage quilt like this for bedding is a great idea that will instantly bring an eclectic and nostalgic feel to your bedroom.
Make your own wall decor with driftwood
Bringing the outdoors in and making decor using things you find outside is a great way to decorate on a budget. Driftwood can be very easy to find in coastal areas and if you find a piece with a flat surface, you can easily turn it into a hand-lettered sign.
Write it out first with a pencil and then paint over it with a small paint brush, thickening the down-stroke lines. A couple of hooks on the top make this easy to hang up with some twine.
Aren’t they all amazing?! There’s a little bit of everything in this round up – small bedroom storage ideas, small bedroom furniture finds, and small bedroom decorating ideas on a budget. Hopefully, you find something to inspire your next bedroom project!!
